For those of you that don’t know me, I have a side-hustle catering business with my friends (Betsy and Lisa – shout out!). One would think that I would be creating gourmet masterpieces for my family every night. Sadly, I have a family of picky and plain eaters…such is life. My favorite “go to” cookbook for basic, family friendly recipes is Food Swings by Jessica Seinfeld. It is foolproof, aesthetically pleasing and there is a mixture of healthy and fattening recipes. It makes a great gift, too. Try the Chicken Parmesan or the Sweet and Sticky Pork Ribs.

I admit both of these cookbooks came from Big Nancy.. Big Nancy was my best friend, grandmother, hostess supreme, an owner of 1000+ cookbooks. She read cookbooks and recipes instead of novels. She loved to be in the kitchen – one of these cookbooks came from her shelf and the one without the cover was a gift – well it had a cover when she gave it to me, but it has long since lost its cover and been spackled with ingredient-covered fingerprints. There are literally HUNDREDS of wonderful recipes in these two great cookbooks – Pass the Plate and Favorite Recipes of the Lower Cape Fear.
