Here’s what we are digging these days…Chang and Eng!

Helen says:

My husband’s aunt and uncle just returned from a day trip to Mt. Airy, NC. I am soooooo jealous that they got to experience the brand new(ish) Siamese Twins Museum. Did you know that the world famous conjoined twins, Chang and Eng Bunker, put down their roots in Surry County? Unfamiliar with them? Click here to read all about their fascinating and sad (at times) life. I became a little obsessed with them when I listened to a podcast called Mobituaries by Mo Rocca. He dedicated an entire episode to their lives. Click here to listen. My Mom has told me that she personally knows some descendants of Chang and Eng, as she grew up in the area. They married a set of sisters from the Piedmont region and had 21 children between them!! Anyway, I plan to visit the next time I am driving through the state or visiting my brother’s family in Lewisville. It will be an interesting field trip!

Above photo is Mo Rocca and some of Chang and Eng’s relatives. I have such a crush on Mo Rocca! He’s hilarious.

I also know some descendants of Chang and Eng – there are quite a few in North Carolina. I remember reading the book below about 25 years ago – it was pretty fascinating. I have never been to Mt. Airy, but it must be an interesting place – Chang, Eng Andy Griffith, Pilot Mountain, Snappy Lunch…
