All the Colors of the Dark

by: Chris Whitaker

Goodreads description:

1975 is a time of change in America. The Vietnam War is ending. Mohammed Ali is fighting Joe Frazier. And in the small town of Monta Clare, Missouri, girls are disappearing.

When the daughter of a wealthy family is targeted, the most unlikely hero emerges—Patch, a local boy with one eye, who saves the girl, and, in doing so, leaves heartache in his wake.

Patch and those who love him soon discover that the line between triumph and tragedy has never been finer. And that their search for answers will lead them to truths that could mean losing one another.

A missing person mystery, a serial killer thriller, a love story, a unique twist on each, Chris Whitaker has written a novel about what lurks in the shadows of obsession, and the blinding light of hope.

Prepare to be gutted!! This was really, really good. We read Whitaker’s last book for our blog, We Begin at the End, and, upon reflection, I realized that I didn’t give it the credit it deserved. This guy can spin a tale! A lot happens in this long book. At points, you will begin to think it is getting ridiculous/ implausible, but stick with it! It has a very satisfying ending.

OK – so we were a little ambitious for our September reads; however, read we did (for the most part)… All the Colors of the Dark – yes it is, dark that is, and I loved it! The writing is fantastic, and it is a page-turner. The character development is top-notch, and there are lots of twists and turns. Although a page-turner, this is not a quick read- take your time and savor it all.
