Tidbit- April 2024

What are we digging this month?

Helen says:

I have been a manic reader this month! I only liked 2 out of 4 of our assigned books. I decided to read and listen to a few others. As I have already mentioned, I started The Court of Thorns and Roses series- very enjoyable and entertaining. I also listened to a really great book of essays by a UNCW professor called Pulphead by John Jeremiah Sullivan. Last but not least, I read Sociopath: A Memoir by Patric Gagne while simultaneously binging Ripley on Netflix. The sociopath book was duller than I expected, but the series Ripley was insanely good! Based on Patricia Highsmith’s The Talented Mr. Ripley, I thought the series was better than the Jude Law/ Matt Damon movie from the 90’s.

Ripley - Season 1 - Open Discussion + Poll

Holly says:

We have been doing quite a bit of traveling this month logging airplane hours which for me equals movie-watching. I watched three Oscar award winners/nominees: Oppenheimer, The Holdovers, and American Fiction. Loved them all, and I think all very deserving of the awards they received. Oppenheimer was fascinating, and a visual effects marvel, even on my tiny airplane screen. Cillian Murphy definitely earned the Best Actor award. The Holdovers was a little dark for me, but very good. Paul Giamatti was great, and Da’Vine Joy Randolph was fabulous and a perfect choice for Best Supporting Actress. But my favorite may have been American Fiction. If you have not seen it, I highly, highly recommend it. I think it’s genius – all actors are perfectly cast, and the story is fascinating. I did not want it to end. Now that I am back home, I am watching American Idol, The Voice, and So You Think You Can Dance. Not sure I have any favorites yet, but no doubt I will soon.
