Goodeads Description:
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo meets First Lie Wins in this electric, voice-driven debut novel about an elusive bestselling author who decides to finally confess her true identity after years of hiding from her past.
Cate Kay knows how to craft a story. As the creator of a bestselling book trilogy that struck box office gold as a film series, she’s one of the most successful authors of her generation. The thing is, Cate Kay doesn’t really exist. She’s never attended author events or granted any interviews. Her real identity had been a closely guarded secret, until now.
As a young adult, she and her best friend Amanda dreamed of escaping their difficult homes and moving to California to become movie stars. But the day before their grand adventure, a tragedy shattered their dreams and Cate has been on the run ever since, taking on different names and charting a new future. But after a shocking revelation, Cate understands that returning home is the only way she’ll be a whole person again.

Keep an open mind while reading this book. It’s a lesbian love story, which might not appeal to our fanbase, but give it a shot. It had a TOTALLY original storyline, and was unlike anything I have read before. Do I recommend it? Yes. Despite a confusing start, the plot developed and unfolded in quite an unusual way. I had to keep reading to see how it ended! Report back and let us know your thoughts.

I thought this was OK. It is a quick read, but I just couldn’t buy into some of the storyline, and some things just didn’t ring true or believable (I know that this is fiction, but it is memoir-style, told from different perspectives, so I expected a little more “reality”.) I’ll just mention…Amanda’s total forgiveness of Annie (without any explanation asked), the post office still holding bags and bags of fan mail after 10-15 years, Annie’s inability to see the real Sydney. So if you read the book, just saying’…I would define this as a lesbian love story with fairly interesting and entertaining character relationships, just too coincidental and far-fetched for me.
